Renovation slated for Summer 2009…This rebuild will include the complete renovation of an existing Schantz Organ. The project will include releathering or replacement of the box style pneumatics, disassembly of the valves with replacement of the leather nuts, cleaning of the wires, cleaning of the valve faces, reassembly and adjustment. The pipework is in generally excellent mechanical condition. This means that all tuners are tight, the pipes have not been mishandled during service and the general speech is acceptable. As expected, there are a few exceptions to this and this section of work is intended to correct those. There are speech problems on a few stops which are resulting in a "buzzing" type sound during the speech. This is a fairly simply voicing repair to restore the clarity and musical value to the speech. Our rebuild calls for providing complete repair of any mechanical problems with the existing pipework as well as full regulation of the organ. This means that each pipe will be inspected and adjusted for speech and blend within its own rank as well as within the overall ensemble. The Great Division will remain as presently designed with the exception of the chime tubes and action which will be replaced with new. While we do feel the Great Division needs some support, it will come with the addition of the Solo. This Division can be coupled to the Great to provide the required strength while still allowing added versatility to the overall instrument. The Swell Division will be enhanced with the addition of an 8' Geigen Principal. This stop will allow a secondary Principal chorus to complement the Great. It will also provide a strong foundation for the Swell and enhance the overall ensemble. The II Rank Flute Celeste will provide a warm, ethereal texture that is well utilized during meditative interludes. The Vox Humana will add a unique solo reed color not currently available on the division. In the reed family, we are also making the State Trumpet available on the manual to allow it to be utilized as an independent voice against the balance of the Solo division, or in counterpoint to the Tuba of the Choir, if desired. The present Choir 8' Flute is a unit stop lacking the character to fulfill this critical role. We are replacing this with an 8' Concert Flute that we will voice to be a contributing stop to the overall Choir ensemble. We are also providing a new Harp and Orchestral Harp on this manual. These two percussive stops are very useful and will add to the overall color of the instrument. The Solo Division will provide a broad body and character to the organ that will fill a number of important musical needs. The division is available on every manual and may be used to support the individual ensembles as required. The Pedal Division is the foundation of the instrument and, as such, we are paying particular attention to this portion of the organ. Several new 32' Stops will provide the depth of harmonics at varying dynamic levels. The same logic follows through on the 16' line as well. The increase of foundational support as well as dynamic taper is very prominent in this proposal.
