St. Augustine, FL
Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine
The relocation of the choir to a newly designed loft at the rear of the sanctuary called for an instrument capable of fully supporting the voices in this elevated space.
Early in the planning, it was decided that the new console should control both the gallery organ and the existing chancel organ. The chancel console was also renovated to provide the same flexibility. Because there was no available floor space or structural capacity for pipework in the gallery, the new division was completed using Walker digital components.
The new console, a sleek three-manual design with a double row coupler rail and eleven divisions, quickly earned the nickname “Big Mama” from the church organist, a name that reflects both its size and versatility.
