Christ Church Georgetown

This landmark Episcopal parish in the historic Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, DC partnered with R.A. Colby to build a fully-custom instrument tailored to its unique liturgical and musical needs, and architectural setting. There was extensive collaboration between client and builder at every stage of the project – from the creation of a tonal scheme to the design of detailed casework, construction of chambers, installation, and throughout the meticulous voicing of the instrument. Housed in three separate chambers – Epistle, Gospel, and Echo, the organ fills the nave with rich, majestic sound.

The four manual, drawknob console is positioned on a movable platform rather than the standard internal caster system, providing the organist with clearer sightlines to members of Christ Church’s professional choir. The platform also incorporates three custom compartments for the storage of musical scores, organ shoes, etc.

The result of this collaborative effort is a distinguished liturgical instrument that will faithfully serve the parish and its music ministry for generations to come.
